December was a month of celebrations for us! It was full of family time. And full of blessings.
The month started by bringing to a close a chapter. And we celebrated because it was over. Usually when a chapter ends, I’m so anxious for the next scene. You know. Like when you’re reading a really good book and you can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next. Well in my real life it wasn’t quite the same. This time I wasn’t anxious. This time I literally breathed a sigh of relief and thanked God that it was so over. And like I said we celebrated. With a nice lunch, a few drinks here and there, some quality time and just good old fashioned fun.
Next up, Layton’s birthday. For the first time ever since I’ve been a mom, we had a simple birthday – just us, at home! Mark and I were both fortunate to be able to stay home. All day all Layton wanted to do was eat his birthday cake. I’m not sure he even realized he would get presents. It was so cute to watch his excitement and anticipation. We ate pancakes and sausage for his birthday dinner, had homemade (well homemade from box) cake, ice cream and strawberries. Opening his presents was so fun for him. He did it all by himself. I still can’t believe he’s 3 already!
We had a couple weeks to get ready for Christmas. It always feels so rushed. We said every night that we were going to wrap presents so we didn’t have to stay up late on Christmas Eve. Well, that didn’t happen, lol. We ended up staying up until well after 3 a.m.! Who does that!
The next day we were up after like 3 hours of sleep and we were in full blown Christmas celebration mode! The kids asked us about 100 times to open presents before we were actually able to get ourselves out of bed. Then they got Layton up and he tore into our room screaming, “Presents, presents, presents!” I wish you could have actually heard it.
I’m so happy for my camera and being able to capture the joy and excitement on their faces as they opened their presents. It was pure joy for me to watch.
This year we spent the day doing things different. We stayed at home. I cooked a delicious breakfast and we just enjoyed being together. I couldn’t have asked for the day to be any better. Every year around Christmas I take time off from work, and I am so grateful I do. The moments I’ve spent with my family have been some of the best. And I know the best is yet to come!
